FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
MOBILE CRANE HIRE
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Common questions about hiring mobile cranes across NSW — including travel range, site requirements, wet vs dry hire, and permit obligations. If your question isn't here, call our team directly.
How far will Apex travel for mobile crane hire in NSW?
Apex Cranes and Rigging services the entire NSW coastline and inland regions. Our primary service areas are Central Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, and surrounding regions — but we regularly mobilise to Hunter Valley, Wollongong, Blue Mountains, and regional NSW on request. Travel costs are quoted transparently upfront. What ground conditions do mobile cranes require?
Mobile cranes require stable, load-bearing ground beneath the outrigger pads. Our team conducts a ground assessment as part of every lift plan. For soft, loose, or previously disturbed ground, we provide engineered crane mats and outrigger pads to ensure safe operation. Soil reports may be requested for heavy-lift configurations.Do I need a permit for mobile crane hire in NSW?
Permit requirements depend on the lift category and site location. Over-dimensional transport of large mobile cranes requires a travel permit from Transport for NSW. Lifts over public land, near powerlines, or within designated airspace may require additional approvals. Apex manages all permit applications on your behalf as part of our lift planning service. What is wet hire vs dry hire for mobile cranes?
Wet hire means the crane is supplied with a fully licensed operator and all associated personnel (dogman, rigger) — this is Apex's standard offering and the preferred approach for safety and liability compliance. Dry hire (crane only, no operator) is available in limited circumstances for clients with appropriately licensed on-site operators. Contact us to discuss your specific requirements. What capacity mobile cranes does Apex operate?
Our mobile crane fleet spans from compact 5-tonne pick-and-carry units for residential and confined-site work, through to all-terrain cranes in the 50t–500t range for industrial and infrastructure projects. We match the right crane to your lift requirements — oversizing is never recommended or quoted. Can Apex handle multi-crane lifts and complex rigging on mobile cranes?
Yes. Apex has experience coordinating tandem and multi-crane lifts for heavy structural steel, large plant installations, and complex infrastructure projects. All multi-crane lifts are supported by engineered lift plans and experienced lift supervisors with multi-trade site coordination experience across NSW.
